Co-hosted by the Creative Technologies track of the Art and Art Education Program at TC, the AET NAEA preconference will explore methods for using technologies to create communities in art-making and in art classrooms. This preconference invites art educators, technologists, and makers in to engage in deep discussions about the ways digital technologies can be used in studio practice, the classroom teaching, and research.

The organizers see digital media as a means to make new, sustainable connections to 21st century modes of learning. This conference intends to lay the groundwork for artists, technologists, and art educators to come together and discuss emerging digital media education pathways in teaching, studio practice, and research.

The conference will also allow art educators to reflect ways in which technology can build community by learning new skills, and discover new ways to incorporate digital technologies in their classrooms. We also hope that the conference generates new networks, collaboration, and strategic partnerships.

Guiding questions: In what ways do technologies expand the traditional communities of art education? How do technologies change artistic making and creative inquiry? How does technology facilitate collaboration? And in which way does technology enable integration across the curriculum?
